banana tree and hyacinth bean plant
Here are some pictures of my banana tree. It is really geting big. The japanese beetles worked it over a bit and ate through a few leaves but it is starting to come back. I will hate to cut it down and dig it up in a few weeks. I will have to before the first hard freeze.

Hi Tishy. Just stumbled upon your webpage as I was brousing about reading about hyacinth bean plants that I googled. I grew them for the first time this year on my arbor and they were just wonderful. Have a bunch of seeds from them for next year. I saw that you like banana trees. I grow the hardy type (musa bashoo) for the past two years. I used to have tropical like you have but tired of digging them up each year and hauling them to my garage. I love the hardy type. Cut them off at two foot after the first frost (leaves have turned) and cover with straw or mulch. will come back in the spring and they make many pups (baby) that you can pass on to your friends. The trouble with tropicals are that if they grow to a mature height they will produce a pod that develops bananas and will stop growing in height and leaves. Then the plant dies. The hardies don't do this. So long. Dennis
