I love this star magnolia bush/tree. The blooms are so fragile and do not last very long but are so beautiful while it lasts.

Videos

I posted these videos the other day because I was trying to find some of Alela Diane on You Tube. I particularly love "Oh! My Mama" and "Pieces of String" by Alela Diane. The Angus and Julia Stone ones I just came up across and like the creativity of the videos and the music. A little odd, but reminds me of the 70's music a bit and I am a little odd in my tastes. The Headless Heroes "Just Like Honey" is also very good. At least give these three a little listen.

I planted onions, sugar snap peas and mustard greens this weekend. I planted the peas a little late but they will come on in time before weather too hot. I also started some cilantro and basil. Sweet and Genovese basil. Ohhh... the aroma and taste of fresh basil. Takes me to a happy place right along with Lavender and Rosemary.

I will post pictures as they grow. I want to put out some lettuce too. I will do that this week if it does not rain. It is supposed to though. I have all kinds of things popping up those pretty little heads. I have had some active rabbits and chipmunks though. Things are getting snipped down to the ground. We shall see how well the peas will germinate without getting nibbled. In that raised bed I found lots of buried sunflower seeds that were germinating already and nuts. I think they think that I am the one invading their space. Ha! Maybe they will leave some of the pea seeds alone to sprout and grow.

Spring is Trying!

The weather was really warm today when I got home from school. I had to go out and try to get some pictures. I cannot wait until Spring Break to really be able to get out in the yard and get some planting done.

The little yellow paperwhites or minature daffodils were a gift two years ago from my good friend Luann on my 50th birthday. They really have multiplied this year. The buds are the star magnolia "bush" that is out front. I am playing with some close up focus settings and got a couple of good ones. I can't quite get the crisp focus I want. I think it looks the way I want it in the lens and then on the computer it loses some in the translation. I do really like the buds of the magnolia.

The building is the old farm site that was up behind us. It is so sad to see it all leveled. Trees gone, old barn gone, no wonder I have rabbits and critters digging up my flower beds (hence the hole). I know my house was once part of that farm, but it sad to watch.

What a difference a day or two makes

I was on the swing in 70 degree weather Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening here is the weather. What they say about Kentucky is true. If you don't like the weather, stick around and it will change.

Blooms!

Thought that the daffodils would be blooming any day now and went around the corner this afternoon and here they are. Windy today and supposed to get into the 20's or
30's. I think I will cut some and bring them in.

Window and lights

Okay, I realize the pictures I posted do not really look like the window is clean because the screen is making the picture blurry but they really are sparkly.

Also, the lights around the deck I added after Christmas because I thought it would really be festive in the spring. I promise I don't just leave up my Christmas lights all year. I think the clear ones on a summer night are nice on the deck, so after I took the lights off the front of the house around the bushes, I added them to the deck.

Maybe I need to invest in some rope lights after I see what it looks like on a video. Oh well, that apparently is how I roll!

It has been so windy for the last two days. My windchimes have been ringing and ringing. Tried to take a little video of the sound. The traffic noise was doing a great job drowning out the sound of my chimes but I love them and long for the time soon when I can fall asleep on my swing listening to them.

I like the chimes because they help to make me forget about the noise. I do not have my big cathedral chime out yet. I try to protect it in the winter because it is a very nice one that Roger got me. It would have been making a joyful noise.

Clean WIndow

Spent part of yesterday cleaning out my window above the sink. Boy was it dirty from the winter grime. I had cleaned it only once since the start of winter. Too much trouble to take out all my little glass things I love so well. I guess it is a little pathetic that I would just admit what a slob I am. It looks better now though. I also went outside and did a little investigating and saw all kinds of growth! Ahhhh the thrill and anticipation of spring. It was almost 70 degrees yesterday. Today it is looking like rain and by Thursday it should be back in the
20's. I will have to go out and cover I guess. The daffodils at teh side of the house have buds on them. The star magnolia looks as though it won't be long before it will burst forth.

Spring

Come on spring. These are my Valentine flowers mixed with some Roger had gotten me earlier during the ice storm.

End of the Week

This week has been a little bit better than last week. I am really not sure what was in the air but the children were a little on the edge the week before last. The last two days were more like it.

Everyone at school has been a little sick and seems like we just keep passing those germs back and forth. I am going in for a little bit tomorrow if for nothing else but to sanitize the tables and materials. It helped too this week that we got to go outside.

This school year has gone by so fast in many ways and I feel so behind still instructionally because of missing so many days earlier on in the year. The snow and ice aused many partial weeks of instruction along with Winter Break and it just seems that I cannot get to the academic level or point I feel we should be. This group does not seem to be generalizing isolated skills like in the past. Not sure what I contribute it to. They are a much younger group overall and did not come with as many prior experiences. We just keep on plugging and I am proud of the progress they have shown.

I keep forgetting to take my camera in for a few random shots. They made neat masks in art today and were so happy to wear them in to show them to me. I really need to keep a digital at school to use.

The trees are at Vince's. I took them in the fall and as I saw them in a random search I started to think about how in the next few weeks we will be able sit out there looking at the trees for hours under the covered porch as soon as the weather changes. We may just invade their space whether they want us to or not. Temperatures should remain fairly stable and feel great under the porch and out of the sun all summer.

Bling Love

Today I was approached at the door by a little boy who handed me this ring and said "I brought something for you." The rest of the children oohed and ahhed and of course I had to wear it for a while. Total bling and versatile too. Secret compartment, hidden watch and of sourse spinning chamber. I could not resist taking these pictures and posting them. It was hard to keep a straight face. I will take it back to him tomorrow but I for today I am wrapped in "Gangsta love!"

What is That?

Found this video on another blog and had to post it. It is indeed powerful.

Jazzy the Wonderdog

Jazz is her own kinda dog. She will let you carry her around like a baby on her back and in your arms until she is afraid something is going on that she is missing. Then she will break her back and neck to get down. Such a little Diva Doggie.

New cut and color

Posted by Picasa

Could not get a good angle on the cut to show what it really looked like. A bit shorter all around than I was ready for but I guess color is fine. I keep getting a little lighter than I really want but oh well. Summer is around the corner, and this is a little darker than it had faded to.
