Dad's Birthday
Happy Birthday to You! Dad's birthday was this past week but we celebrated today at Sonny's BBQ and came back to the house for cake and ice cream. After Dad blew out the candles, Roger went to wave the roll of paper towels and they slipped out of his hand, skimmed the cake and flew past Dad. I caught a picture just as the paper towel roll was in front of him.
Ceiling fan completed
Roger worked so hard this weekend and I am forever grateful. What would I do without him. I certainly could not have climbed up there and done all that. I was a faithful assistant but glad he was up there and not me. I did not even like climbing the ladder next to the scaffolding and handing up things he needed. Yeah. I think the before and afters are great. I took the fan moving so picture not clear with my crazy camera.

willow tree growing!
I am so sad to think all of my flowers are dying and ready to freeze. I just don't like this time of year because of that alone. I love the weather but not the loss. I am happy the willow tree is doing so well though. It was just a small twig this time last year. The October Glory Red Maple is not doing as well. The 17 year Cicadas played a number on it I am afraid.
One Down One to Go
Roger finished putting up the light in the foyer. Putting scaffolding up and down was the most time consuming. In between losing a football game horribly but that is another story. The pictures show a yellow glow form the lights but they do not look yellow at all. They are a beautiful beige/gold. I just love it. We have had it for 18 months and I have been waiting soooo patiently. Goodbye brassy brasserton lighting fixture-hello old world, make me feel good new fixture! Takes very little to make me so so happy.
Scaffolding
Roger got some scaffolding from Billy. He got it from a friend so we can finally
get the light fixture and ceiling fan changed in the great room! We have been without a ceiling light in there since we moved in because the fan is too tall to reach with a regular ladder. We bought a longer down rod to go with the new fan for in there so changing a light bulb will be much easier. Yeah! Poor Roger now he has to do all that work. I will add pictures as we progress. I am just soooo excited.

Teresa's bananas from her tree
Can ya spell banana?
These are some pics of the blooms from my assistants banana tree. She is the one that gave me my tree. I have had such fun watching it grow this year. Hers actually had some bananas. She brought them in to show the children when she cut them down. Our weather does not allow them to mature unless the bloom sets fairly early in the summer. I had been hoping I would get lucky and get some bananas. No such luck, but maybe next year. When the big purple bloom opens up each layer, the small row of blooms will become bananas. It was very interesting to see.

kenzi feeds the ducks
Kenzi is my neice's daughter. Roger and I watched her today while Mommy and Daddy both worked. Kenzi had lots of fun riding over to the banks of the pond across the street to feed the ducks. We had some cereal and some feed for them. Classic nose picking and more occurred. We had a great day. We even got a nap in on the swing.

Trav's new song
Travis sang a couple of songs for us today. I sat outside quite a bit in the shade of my swing in between cooking. It was a little hot but I love this weather.
I still am trying to read The story of Edgar Sawtelle. Anymore, it takes me so long to read a book because when I read too long because of my cataract surgery, my vision gets very blurry and I have double vision for minutes after I stop reading. Same thing for after I am on the computer for a while. Not sure what that is all about but it has always happened. Scared me at first but ot goes away after a few minutes.
Video is still processing so I am typing away. Not much else I can do. Well, I guess there is. I need to write names on report cards and get those started but you know, another one of those put off procrastination things I am so well known for. Oh I think it is finished. It is and by george I think it worked this time. Video I think is a little dark. We did not have lights turned on.
Roger's birthday
Roger had a pretty good early birthday. He and Darril went golfing. Vince really wanted to go but Susan got sick. She is running a fever and can barely swallow. Being a good husband and all he stayed with her instead. Gabe overslept and did not bring his clubs with him this time so he stayed home. Everyone was disappointed that the wildcats lost. Then when got home and we gave him his present. "Arrested Development" seasons one two and three. He thought we were going to borrow it but we bought it for him. He rarely ever says he wants to do something, so we knew he really liked those shows well enough to purchase them when that was his idea of a good birthday to have a pseudo Marathon. We only got interrupted a little bit. Then it was on to football at the end of the day. Trav brought his guitar and sang his new song for us. I videoed it and will yet again attempt to load it. Myspace always loads easily and fairly quickly. NOt sure what is up with Blogger.

Fall Clean Up
Spent some of the day trimming black eyed Susans and hostas in prep for winter. It is always such a sad time for me to have to cut back plants. I don't know why but I don't even like to trim back blooming plants in the middle of summer when I know there is plenty of growing time left. I know you need to and it is good for the plants most of the time but I hate to feel like I am killing any plant.
I was messing around and took some pictures while I was working. Even the face in the shrub is sad. I know I must really have too much time on my hands right? I am just prolonging the agony of going to Sam's right now. Just wastin' time. I really do have way more productive things to do... but thought oh well, what the hey. Gotta do something to make me feel better about killing everything.
